Job Summary:
Cohen & Steers, a leading global investment manager specializing in real assets and alternative income, is seeking an experienced public relations, internal communications and social media professional. This role will help drive and execute the firm’s growing global media relations, internal communication and social media programs to enhance the firm's brand, reputation and engagement with employees, clients, prospects and the media.
We are looking for a strong writer, communicator and strategic thinker well-versed with the U.S. financial media. You will have a demonstrated ability of building and maintaining relationships with the media and other stakeholders. Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Public Relations
- Create, develop and implement public relations plans aligned to the firm’s key marketing campaigns, priority investment strategies, business goals and distribution channel needs.
- Elevate the Cohen & Steers brand by showcasing our expertise, perspectives and investment capabilities in both investor trade and national business media, while increasing the quality and frequency of the media coverage.
- Build strong internal relationships with the firm’s subject matter experts so the firm has a media-ready spokesperson bench by identifying, training and prepping our executives and investment professionals, including scheduling interviews.
- Proactively build and maintain media relationships in North America, as well as be a primary client contact for external public relations agencies in London and New York.
- Develop story ideas and pitches to support positive positioning of the company and its investment strategies for both timely, market-event driven coverage, strategic positioning of our asset classes and corporate profiles.
- Evaluate and manage inbound requests from journalists for Cohen & Steers’ market commentary and thought leadership.
- Develop clear and engaging press releases, Q&As, and client communications to drive effective client, employee and press engagement, while coordinating internal stakeholder review of all communications.
- Maintain media lists, editorial calendars, award submissions, and tracking of PR results that will lead to coordinated media engagement and continuous improvement based on analysis of the quality of Cohen & Steers coverage.
- Serve as subject matter expert on the evolving media landscape including identifying emerging trends in content engagement, rising media platforms and process improvements to drive efficiency in our communications processes.
Internal Communications
- Develop engaging internal communications through written and video forms as well as live events and town halls for our global employees that clearly articulate the firm’s priorities, changes and opportunities.
- Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders critical to employee engagement, including Human Resources, the firm’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs and our executive committee.)
- Develop effective distribution plans for all communications across email, the firm’s intranet, in-person meetings and other methods that will include critical, fast-moving communications as well as scheduled communications programs.
Social Media
- Drive audience engagement and growth to enhance the firm’s brand visibility and position Cohen & Steers as a thought leader across social media platforms with an emphasis on LinkedIn.
- Develop engaging, high-quality social media content in partnership with the firm’s editorial and creative teams.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee content distribution across platforms to ensure consistency and impact.
- Track key metrics, analyze engagement data, and develop insights on content engagement to make data-driven adjustments to continually optimize our content and strategy.
Minimum Requirements:
- 6-9 years of public relations experience at an asset manager, financial services firm or agency serving a financial services firm
- Skills and proficiency of media relations, corporate communications and internal communications
- Excellent written communications and presentation skills
- Knowledge of asset management or experience in financial services
- Knowledge of real assets, real estate, and infrastructure is a plus
- Experience with internal communications, executive communications and crisis management
- Bachelor of Arts or Science required
- Strong collaboration skills and team player is a must
- Effective communicator who can translate technical language in a straightforward way to partners who may not be technical of conversant in digital media, PR and marketing terms
