Overview:
Supports all accounting-related activities, projects, and analysis for a client base. Responsible for development and management of operational accounting control functions in support of the client's accounting systems, including maintaining accounting entry flow process to support accurate and timely reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and internal and/or external reporting of financial information and regulatory reporting. Assists and participates in related projects as requested; may serve as lead on routine projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform full-cycle general ledger accounting for multiple entities, processing all necessary journal entries and adjustments.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for each entity, ensuring timely and accurate close for all assigned clients.
Prepare monthly variance analysis, reconciliations, tests of accounting data integrity, and work paper reviews.
Review accounting transaction documentation for completeness and accuracy; research account variances.
Support the improvement and implementation of existing processes and new processes related to accounting for various clients that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Complete accounting tasks in a manner compliant with applicable laws and regulations and/or that serve to help the Company comply with laws and regulations that apply to the business line the position supports.
Participate in interpreting and analyzing financial information and presenting results. Research and compile data to provide management with financial trends.
Prepare and present financial statements and analysis to the board of directors and management, providing insight into financial performance.
Calculate, review and authorize internal and external money movements, ensuring accuracy, compliance with financial controls, and adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures.
Participate in departmental tasks and project planning.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The position works independently under general supervision of more experienced personnel. This position interacts with internal business partners as well as external auditors, financial institutions and third parties.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field with significant Accounting coursework and a minimum of 2 years accounting, audit and/or financial institution experience.
Proficiency in pertinent spreadsheet software
Knowledge and application of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting) Principles
Strong interpersonal skills
Education and Experience Preferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Minimum of 1 year general ledger accounting experience
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $56,655.45 - $94,425.76 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
