The Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis will be a member of the Corporate Finance team and will report to the Director, Financial Planning and Corporate Finance. The Associate, working closely with the Senior Associate will be responsible for delivering meaningful financial analysis, financial performance reporting, KPIs and financial planning and forecasting, including a contributing role in the development of the annual and 5-year financial plan. The Associate will be responsible for maintaining the appropriate financial models to be used to produce planning and forecasting. The successful candidate will be required to perform complex and technical analysis, considering many variables, and accounting methodologies, requiring solid knowledge of the organization, its products, policies, and processes. The successful candidate should thrive in ad hoc/”what if” analytics in order to assess ever-changing and uncertain impacts on the business.The reporting and analysis are required to be presented in a concise, accurate and meaningful way on a timely basis, which can be easily understood by senior leadership and used for various purposes including decision making to strategically drive business growth as well as reporting to the Board, executive management, and inclusion in publicly released results.
Accountabilities
- Support the development of Northleaf’s long-term strategic plan as well as quarterly performance management through the effective maintenance of the financial model, along with identifying performance improvement opportunities to continuously evolve the model in an efficient and effective way to ensure fit for purpose, functionality, accuracy and completeness of inputs, outputs and key assumptions.
- Responsible for producing monthly and quarterly management reporting of financial performance results with commentary and analysis vs. plan and prior periods for Northleaf’s strategic partner IGM Financial as well as Board of Directors, Management and Shareholder Committees.
- Help define and report on key operating metrics and KPIs across the organization.
- Maintain and update business unit profitability allocation models, along with KPIs.
- Support Northleaf’s annual budgeting process including working to get input from all business and functional team leaders.
- Support the annual business valuation process.
- Create monthly and quarterly AUM continuity reporting in total, by asset class and by fund including, main drivers such as fundraising and investment pacing.
- Support broader corporate finance function to drive enterprise-wide financial strategy and value creation, as needed.
- Ad hoc decision support/analysis, as required.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a Financial Modeling, Corporate Accounting, or similar function, with experience in investment banking, management consulting or asset management, all equally advantageous.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Economics and/or CPA/MBA/CFA would be an asset.
- Highly analytical: ability to analyze, distill key insights from complex financial models, problem solve and draw conclusions, is essential.
- Strong financial/management reporting: experience with reporting financial results and KPIs across multiple periods, along with variance analysis.
- Mastery of MS Excel with experience in developing financial models to support business objectives through data analysis modelling.
- Confident with PowerPoint and add-in functionality.
- Hands-on experience manipulating, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets using SQL and/or Python (or R), Tableau / Power BI, considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills: can synthesize ideas, thought processes and able to clearly articulate to several different audiences.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task: skilled at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills: ability to prioritize and manage tasks to completion within required timeframes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively manage and leverage working relationships.
- Highly self-motivated, self-directed; demonstrated ability to be proactive.
