Group Description
The Fixed Income Division (FID) Commodities Corporate Sales group is a solutions provider to the Firm’s clients servicing their hedging needs across the spectrum of Commodity products, including oil, natural gas, precious and base metals, power, and agricultural products. The group engages with clients on both vanilla over-the-counter derivatives as well as structured products. The group sits on the private side and works closely with the public side traders in the Commodities Division, a group with 200+ front office employees, and which is a market leader in energy, metals, and agricultural product trading worldwide, trading in both physical and derivative commodity risk.
This role is for an Analyst or Associate on the FID Commodities Corporate Sales desk, based in Houston.
Responsibilities
A successful candidate would be able to support the sales professionals on the desk with client coverage and develop a deep understanding of commodities markets, fundamentals, and client flows across the spectrum of Commodities markets. The candidate would work closely with the sales team to provide market analysis and trade support, execute trades, and assist in developing flow and structured hedging solutions for clients.
The candidate would work closely with the sales and trading teams to facilitate client business, and specific tasks will include:
- Assist with pre and post trade execution
- Responsibility for completing quarterly hedging reports summarizing client hedging activity
- Write weekly market commentary
- Summarize MS Research reports for client distribution
- Provide back-up to other salespeople and proactively reach out to clients
- Communicate with clients, salespeople and traders on market color and trade execution
- Work with middle office and back office on trade reconciliation
- Conduct analysis on historical and forward commodities prices
- Generate Mark-to-market statements
- Work with IT in improving processes and systems
- Draft PowerPoint decks for client presentations
Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree in economics, finance or quantitative discipline
- 1-2+ years of experience, finance preferred
- Mastery / strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
- Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment amid the multiple distractions of working on a trading floor; Ability to learn and quickly grasp new concepts
- Understanding of swaps, options and derivatives products preferred

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $200,000 per year for Associate, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
