The CalSTRS Audit Services Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Senior Management Auditor within the Audit Data Solutions & Quality Assurance Unit.
CalSTRS delegated authority to Audit Services to perform audits in order to evaluate a school employer’s compliance with the Teacher’s Retirement Law. The mission of Audit Services is to provide independent, objective assurance through audit and consulting services designed to add value and improve CalSTRS operations. Audit Services assists CalSTRS in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control and governance processes. Audit Services is an integral part of the accomplishment of goals and objectives established for CalSTRS operations and programs. Audit Services consists of Employer and Internal Audits, Data Solutions, and Operations.
Under the direction of the Internal Audits Supervising Management Auditor, and working with Audit Services leadership, the Senior Management Auditor (SMA) plans, organizes, and directs the Audit Data Solutions & Quality Assurance unit in support of compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards (Standards), applicable laws, regulations and policies, Audit Services performance objectives and continuous improvement. The SMA provides guidance and direction over a Staff Management Auditor and a team of professional audit staff who are responsible for performing audit data solutions and analytics, various audit activities, and implementation of Audit Services quality assurance and improvement program in accordance with the Standard
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills
- Understanding and knowledge of the Global Internal Audit Standards
- Experienced audit leader with ability to direct the work of staff engaged in a variety of data solution projects
- Experience using data analytics, data solutions, data visualization, TeamMate, PowerBI
- Experience in using data analytics in various types of auditing, creating dashboards for audit efficiencies and for board agenda items
- Experience and ability to continue to develop and mature the data solutions unit
- Experience in using data analytics for risk assessments
- Understanding of data identification and system control deficiencies
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.
