Position: Associate, Private Credit
Northleaf is currently recruiting for an experienced Associate to join the growing private credit team. This position will be based in Northleaf’s Chicago office and will report to the Managing Director.
The successful candidate will work with the senior investment team on evaluating, underwriting, and executing private credit investments in North America across multiple industries supporting private equity sponsored transactions.
Underwriting & Execution
- Assist in all aspects of the underwriting and execution process including initial deal screen, comprehensive business diligence, financial review, legal documentation, credit approval and transaction closing
- Present opportunities and participate in the deal discussion with Investment Committee
- Conduct meetings with lead sponsors and/or company management to review past performance, strategy, industry landscape, and other relevant topics
- Perform financial and business analysis to review industry, business strategy, competitive positioning, and financial strength.
- Develop 3 statement models and perform valuation analysis, including DCF, precedent transactions and comparable company analysis
- Develop balanced, fact-based investment recommendations based on the results of the team's due diligence and analysis
Portfolio Management
- Responsible for ongoing monitoring of an existing credit portfolio including financial performance review and communication of trends to senior leadership
- Maintain ongoing dialogue with the borrower, management team, and/or sponsor
- Identify and assist in new business opportunities within the portfolio such as add-on acquisitions, refinancing, and recapitalizations
- Oversee the preparation and audit review of quarterly and annual portfolio company valuations
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience across private credit, investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, or transaction advisory services
- Strong analytical skills including research, financial modeling, risk identification
- Professionalism and integrity
- Strong interpersonal and business relationship skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Flexibility, adaptability and initiative
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
- Team player who enjoys a high-performance culture
- Willingness to travel
