The SBA is hiring a Portfolio Manager in the Active Credit asset class. The Portfolio Manager - Active Credit is responsible for oversight of external managers and manager aggregates and contributing to a team tasked with supporting these responsibilities. The focus of the position is expected to be in private credit and multi-asset credit. This position works on-site, in-office in Tallahassee, Florida.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages the investment selection process
- Manages fund relationships
- Assists with Active Credit portfolio strategy
- Manages and develops cross functional and interdepartmental communications and mentorship

Sourcing, evaluating, and recommending public and private credit managers for inclusion in the Active Credit portfolio. Leading investment and operational due diligence, and regulatory reviews. Monitoring manager performance and risk exposures, ensuring compliance with SBA guidelines. Conducting independent and collaborative research projects on topical credit market issues. Preparing and presenting findings to the Active Credit team and senior leadership. Collaborating across teams (e.g., Fixed Income, Private Equity, Risk, Operations) to support holistic portfolio management and strategic initiatives. Regularly reporting to senior leadership and periodically participating in investment committee meetings.
What you should have
Four years of relevant experience. A postsecondary degree may be used as an alternative for years of direct experience.
Preferences:
- Five to seven years of related experience in public and private credit manager selection and monitoring
- Strong knowledge of finance and investments
- Enrollment in or completion of Master of Business Administration or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, mathematics, accounting, economics, or a related field
- Enrollment in or completion of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of investment portfolio construction and risk measurement and management
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with comprehensive knowledge of finance and investment concepts
- Critical reasoning skills, with the ability to question and understand strategy and portfolio construction
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Skill in developing performance analysis, including attribution of fund performance, and interpreting risk analysis
- Ability to manage or mentor staff to meet organizational goals and objectives
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Travels frequently to various locations throughout the United States. Involves occasional work outside of normal business hours and working remotely to maintain contact with external research sources and maintains normal office-related duties
- Experience with investment analytics platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, eVestment), portfolio management systems, CRM systems, and risk analytics software. Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools.
