Overview
RA Capital's Family Office and Partner Services team is seeking a Tax Associate to support the financial operations and accounting functions for the firm's Founders, Partners, and Executive Officers. This hands-on role is responsible for executing day-to-day accounting activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the team's high-touch client relationships.
The Tax Associate will manage accounts payable and receivable, perform monthly reconciliations, support financial reporting processes, and serve as a key user of the Eton Solutions platform. This position requires strong technical accounting skills, systems proficiency, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves across various accounting functions. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative to improve processes, and can adapt quickly to new systems and structures.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Bill Pay Operations
- Manage weekly invoice review and bill pay processing for multiple entities
- Process vendor payments and other cash disbursements with appropriate approvals
- Input invoice and vendor data into Eton Solutions platform
- Monitor and reconcile credit card transactions
- Forecast cash needs to support ongoing bill pay processes
- Maintain vendor relationships and resolve payment inquiries
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Oversee general ledger accounting and maintain the chart of accounts for family office operations
- Manage and reconcile complex entity structures including partnerships, LLCs, trusts, and foundations
- Run financial reports for clients and internal team members as needed
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant accounting standards
- Develop and maintain comprehensive accounting policies and procedures
Systems Management & Data Integrity
- Serve as primary administrator for Eton Solutions platform, ensuring data accuracy and optimal system utilization
- Reconcile portfolio holdings and transactions across multiple custodians (Fidelity, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Raymond James, Pictet)
- Maintain integration between Eton Solutions and Custodians
- Implement controls to ensure data integrity across all financial systems
- Generate customized financial reports for internal and client use
Audit & Tax Coordination
- Coordinate annual audits and prepare supporting documentation and schedules
- Serve as primary liaison with external audit firms
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external auditors and tax professionals
- Collaborate with tax advisors to provide necessary financial data for tax return preparation
- Support IRS compliance reporting, including Forms 1099, K-1s, and other required filings
- Assist with tax planning initiatives and estimate calculations
Client Account Management
- Oversee reconciliation of client investment accounts and alternative investments
- Support investment administration activities, including capital calls and distributions
- Coordinate with operations team on asset transfers and transaction processing
- Provide financial insights to support client planning initiatives
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design and maintain internal control framework for family office operations
- Conduct periodic control assessments and implement improvements
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Document processes and maintain comprehensive procedure manuals
- Support corporate transparency and reporting requirements
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide guidance and oversight to accounting and operations team members
- Collaborate with wealth advisors on client financial planning and reporting needs
- Partner with team on investment performance measurements and attributions
- Respond to ad hoc requests from senior leadership with professionalism and efficiency
- Contribute to strategic initiatives to enhance the client experience and operational efficiency
Qualifications CPA certification preferred and/or expertise with financial statement preparation and general ledger accountingBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree preferred7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within wealth management, an RIA, a family office, or public accountingExperience with Eton Solutions preferredStrong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standardsExperience coordinating audits and working with external accounting firms Familiarity with multi-custodian environments and alternative investment accountingExcellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex financial concepts clearlyProven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlinesHighly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesTechnologically fluent, with proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) – advanced Excel skills required

- Must be willing to work a hybrid schedule out of our Boston office

Compensation
RA Capital Management is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Pay for this position will be based on experience, skills, qualifications, and current market conditions.
In addition to base salary (listed below), employees may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
