This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 125% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Senior Portfolio Manager (SPM) on the Investment Operations & Services team.
The Investment Operations and Services team delivers 1) core middle-office operations and investment business services supporting internal and external investment programs across public and private markets, and 2) the establishment and maintenance of operational risks, controls, and due diligence frameworks for diverse investment strategies and structures.
Under the direction of the Senior Investment Director (SID) of Strategic Management and Operations, the Senior Head of Investment Operations & Services is responsible for the business and operational management of the Investment Branch. The incumbent provides Investment and administrative expertise to the Investment Operations, Operational Risk, and Investment Business Services teams. The incumbent coordinates efficient communication between Investment Services and the Investment Divisions to effectively execute investment strategy implementation, operational functions and risks, operational needs, and business service needs. The incumbent is responsible for performing the following complex duties requiring the highest degree of independence and discretionary judgment.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Experience overseeing core middle office functions for internal and external investment activities.
- Experience leading investment operational frameworks across varying fund structures in both public and private strategies.
- Experience overseeing the design and implementation of an operational risk and diligence framework.
- Experience overseeing investment-related business services, including procurement, human resources coordination, budgets, travel, and related administrative functions.
- Experience in effectively communicating complex information to a board or similar body, executive leadership, high-level policymakers, stakeholders, and team members.
- Ability to create and implement a strategic forward-looking operational roadmap.
- Ability to offer succinct, value-added recommendations, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions.
- Experience developing and leading a diverse and broad range of staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple investment decisions.
- A high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
