The CalSTRS Office of the General Counsel is seeking multiple motivated individuals to work as Analyst I's in the Community Property Unit.
Under the direction of the Teachers' Retirement Board and the administrative direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Office of the General Counsel provides advice on legal issues as they affect the overall programs and policies of California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS), manages CalSTRS legal program, and represents the System in litigation, appeals, and other legal matters.
The Office of the General Counsel is comprised of multiple highly visible and complex business areas: Office of Legal Ethics & Accountability (OLEA), Enterprise Information Management & Legal Operations, Information Security Office, Legal Services, Investment Counsel, and Litigation Services.
The Community Property Unit provides the involved parties with necessary account-related and procedural information, and reviews and implements court orders addressing the disposition of a community property interest in a CalSTRS account. With proper documentation, a member's account may be divided or acknowledged as the member's sole and separate property. CalSTRS will implement the stipulations as defined in a court order, provided they are within the boundaries of the Teachers' Retirement Law. The Community Property Unit also reviews and implements Powers of Attorney, Guardianships and Conservatorships. The unit is also responsible for reviewing and processing Wage Orders.
Under the supervision of the Community Property Manager, in the Office of General Counsel, the Analyst I preforms technical analysis of legal documents, including Joinders, benefit estimates and account segregations, to ensure compliance with the Teachers’ Retirement Law. The incumbent is responsible to gather and compile research to advise management on community property issues and provide technical expertise to enhance the accuracy of community property consultative services across various CalSTRS business areas.
