The
Archivist will lead the
History Center efforts to conduct, preserve, and catalog oral histories while supporting the general management of archival collections of the Vanguard History Center in accordance with best practices; interacting effectively with business areas of Vanguard; processing diverse archival materials; and providing reference services and outreach to the Vanguard community.
Archivist:
- Administers the History Center’s oral history program, including conducting interviews with retiring senior leaders, overseeing transcription, description, and preservation.
- Identifies opportunities to conduct topically based oral histories with broader population of crew; establishes project strategy and executes.
- Promotes the use of the oral history collection to support internal projects across the enterprise.
- Foster relationships with record creators across the enterprise at all levels to facilitate ongoing record transfer.
- Conducts all aspects of archival collection processing, working independently on activities including accession, description, preservation and cataloging, and preparation of finding aids for records across diverse formats.
- Conducts surveys and content appraisals and makes recommendations for accession to collections.
- Provides archival reference and research services for the Vanguard community, including PR, Executive Communications, and Internal Communications needs.
- Learns, uses, and maintains proficiency with the Center's archives management software and digital asset management software.
- Maintains complete records of the Center's activities to support reporting functions.
- Keeps up to date on key corporate initiatives, policies, and procedures, and industry trends and developments. Researches new topics as necessary.
- Identifies ways to improve workflow processes and to implement improvements.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
What it takes:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree from an accredited Library & Information Science or related program with course work in archival studies preferred.
- 4 years’ experience working with archival collections.
- Experience conducting and describing oral histories.
- Comfortable interacting with senior leaders for oral histories and coordinating records transfer.
- Experience with digital asset management systems.
- Knowledge of various metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MODS) preferred.
- Familiarity with use of emerging technologies to enhance and promote archives and special collections preferred.
- Experience in corporate or organizational archives preferred.
- Proven capability to handle multiple projects.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
