Job Description
Ares’ Alternative Credit strategy targets various types of asset-focused investments where diversified pools of assets (rather than corporate earnings) generate the cash flows upon which the Team’s investments are based. Alternative Credit invests across a spectrum of liquid and illiquid opportunities that include various specialty finance sectors, net leases, structured products, cash flow streams (e.g. royalties, licensing, management fees), and other asset types. Alternative Credit has a broad range of sub-strategies designed to be client-focused and solutions-based with three main formats: pure play, customized and flagship funds.
We are currently seeking a Senior Associate or Vice President to join the alternative credit team focused on capital markets. The Senior Associate/Vice President will focus on a variety of core capital markets responsibilities including: developing deep banking relationships with the street, gathering market intelligence, sourcing new investment opportunities, negotiating, structuring & executing fund and asset level financings, syndication and coordinating various branding initiatives. The position will also help streamline “reverse” coverage of the dealer community. The accelerated AUM growth in recent years has created an immediate need to enhance the groups capital markets expertise. The added capital markets knowledge will compliment sourcing, execution and augment communication flow.
Primary functions:
- Bank Business Development : Assist with building and maintaining bank relationships spanning all pockets of origination within a bank including trading, financing, investment banking and other
- New Deal Origination: Facilitate sourcing new deal flow across public & private credit markets utilizing deep bank relationships and regular contact across all parts of the bank
- Financing: Gain hands-on transaction experience by playing an integral role in sourcing, negotiating, structuring and executing on financing transactions at the asset level and/or fund level
- Syndication: Distribute originated risk within the firm and/or externally as needed
- Branding: Brand development including conferences, panels, social events etc
Essential Responsibilities:
- Increase the dialogue and mapping of the dealer community while up tiering the overall relationship to increase deal flow origination
- Prepare marketing materials for Ares Alternative Credit capabilities and case studies for usage with banks/counterparties
- Prepare marketing materials and data packs for all financing initiatives with the banks
- Assist with negotiating deal terms & lead execution processes for various financing initiatives
- Assist in various processes with ratings agencies at deal level and fund level
- Provide proactive market color/updates to the collective Alternative Credit team & across the Ares platform
- Increase the awareness of Alternative Credit solutions to other areas across Ares
- Help drive brand development forward for Alternative Credit at conferences, panels and bank events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or international equivalent required
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience at a top investment firm, investment bank or similar organization, which might include experience in capital markets, leveraged finance, buy-side M&A, structured product sales/syndications and/or principal investing experience.
- Strong intellect with outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting
- Understanding of loan / transaction documentation – commitment letters, term sheets and credit agreements
- Excellent writing, analytical and presentation skills
- Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, accounting and finance.
- Superior networking skills and ability to source valued information

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$170,000.00 - $200,000.00
