What does a successful Postgres DBA do at Fiserv?

You’ll work with cutting-edge on-premise and cloud technologies, collaborating closely with application and support teams to optimize performance and drive innovation. What you will do:
- Subject matter expert for a platform that supports close to 1 million credit card transactions/day.
- Manage and optimize our Postgres databases, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with our application team to understand project requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
- Utilize your expertise in ETL processes to integrate data effectively across our systems.
- Leverage your 10+ years of experience in relational database systems like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle, with a strong preference for Postgres.
- Take charge of installing, upgrading, and maintaining our database software to keep everything up to date.
- Automate manual tasks to improve efficiency and minimize downtime, showing your passion for innovation.
- Participate in a 24x7 support rotation, ensuring our databases are always operational and ready to perform.
What you will need to have:
- Bachelor's Degree (preferably Computer Science or Engineering) or equivalent combination of experience, education and military.
- Experience as Postgres DBA, supporting Postgres DB in Production. Experience stabilizing the platform in an environment where they were the SME for Postgres.
- 10+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including performance management, query optimization, and database health analysis using tools like SolarWinds, with ownership of the entire platform.
- 5+ years of experience as a DBA.
- Strong understanding of database technologies, including logical and physical design, automation, documentation, installations, shell scripting, PL/SQL programming, query and system tuning, resource contention analysis, backup and recovery, standby, and replication.
- Proficient in Linux, with extensive experience in administrating database clusters.
- Skilled in shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Perl), Python, and Terraform.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as Couchbase and MongoDB.
What would be great to have:
- Certified in AWS or Azure cloud and PostgreSQL.
