Geode is looking for a
Scrum Master/Player Coach to advise, mentor, coach, and train on performance against agile values, practices and processes to accelerate squad value delivery. This role will work closely with squad members to blend deep scrum expertise with a passion for mentoring and coaching, and constant improvement. In partnership with the squad leader the ideal candidate will maintain a backlog, help to remove impediments, and facilitate agile ceremonies such as the daily scrum meeting, sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives. This role will participate in scaling ceremonies and activities and will manage interdependencies across squads and product areas. The ideal candidate will examine and drive team performance through metrics and find opportunities for the squad to fully realize the benefits of working in an agile structure. As a player/coach, the ideal candidate will spend a percentage of their time as a squad member applying their expertise and experience to help advance the work and improve squad and product area performance.
This is a hybrid work environment opportunity located in Boston, Massachusetts with a weekly in office schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and remote work availability on Mondays and Fridays.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with squad and chapter leaders to enable delivery of the squad's mission through well-executed sprints
- Accelerate overall squad performance, efficiency and value delivered by engaging within and across squads to find opportunities to improve agile maturity and metrics, and providing coaching, training and resources
- Maintain and update squad performance metrics (e.g., burn-down charts) and artifacts to ensure accurate and clear feedback to the squad members and transparency to other partners
- Manage and coordinate logistics for participation in agile events (e.g., backlog prioritization, sprint planning, daily meetings, retrospectives and as appropriate, scrum of scrum masters)
- Support adoption, and consistent use of enabling tools (e.g., Jira, Miro, MS Teams)
- Manage, develop, and empower associates within the Chapter to aid in career growth and enable the delivery of increased value in their teams
- Establish technical standards and expertise for the area
- Identify current and future skill requirements for chapter members in partnership with Squad Leaders
Skills You Bring:
- 5+ years of Scrum Master experience, across several Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban etc, and driving projects to successful completion
- Working experience of using collaboration tools like Miro, Jira and Confluence
- Financial services experience preferred
- Excellent communication and people-interaction skills that can rapidly build trust and positively influence others at all levels of the organization
- Demonstration of a continuous improvement approach
- Proven change agent capable of coaching agile practices to teams and individuals from across different functions, experiences and geographies as they work through new and unfamiliar situations
- Effective facilitator who can brainstorm with the team to generate solutions that address challenges and roadblocks to accelerating value delivery
- Intellectually curious and passionate about learning new skills, and model a culture of continuous learning, mentoring and coaching
- Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams
- Experience identifying and acquiring talent needs
