What you’ll be doing
The Private Banking Cross Border Credit Lead will be responsible for establishing program guidelines for cross-border lending and banking, as well as cultivating new and servicing existing bank relationships resulting in efficient delivery of credit and other bank services. This includes active portfolio management providing both banking and customized lending solutions to new and existing clients, plus introductions to Wealth and Commercial partners. You will help processors and underwriters understand Canada tax laws and cash flows given their unique accounting structures.
In addition to using an existing external network and centers of influence, this specific role collaborates with internal related partners, including CIBC Private Wealth Management and CIBC Commercial Banking, to increase new relationships. Through a team approach with a specific focus on meeting the lending and deposit needs of clients, you will seek greater penetration of existing relationships with the ultimate goal of profitable growth of strategic client relationships.
How you’ll succeed
Responsible for establishing new cross-border private banking lending and deposit relationships.
Support all banking and customized lending solution needs identified within CIBC Private Wealth Management. Seek to become trusted advisor through regular client contact and relationship building.
In addition to managing new and existing client relationships, explore opportunities to provide additional credit and non-credit services. Serve as client’s primary internal resource as it relates to lending and deposit needs.
Partner with CIBC Private Wealth Management Relationship Managers and other team members to achieve ultimate approval for new business and modifications to existing business, including active participation in and adherence to requirements of pre-screen and relationship strategy meetings.
Identify product/service opportunities for other business units and participates in development of creative solutions to client needs, coordinates presentations, and brings in partners when appropriate.
Ensure consistency in deal structuring to bridge client needs to appropriate risk mitigation through detailed analysis and underwriting of credit. Responsibilities include interfacing with the Underwriting team and Credit Risk Management. Quarterback to drive deals through the underwriting and closing process.
Assessing and mitigating potential risks associated with cross-border lending, such as currency fluctuations, political instability, and legal complexities.
Ensuring adherence to international regulations related to cross-border lending, including anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance.
Collaborate with peers, and mentor junior team members, as part of a team to ensure delivery of superior client service.
Ensure banking portfolio responsibilities are completed, including portfolio reviews, past dues, renewals and collection of key financial information.
Responsible and accountable for the risk rating accuracy and risk identification on assigned portfolio. Seek to actively keep informed of changes to policy and procedure that will impact portfolio (credit policy, risk rating framework, regulatory, compliance requirements).
Act as an ambassador for CIBC Private Wealth Management through active participation in local market and industry events to maintain current market knowledge and develop new client relationships.

Who you are
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience developing and managing lending and deposit relationships with cross-border high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics preferred.
Demonstrated experience applying deep credit expertise, working knowledge of investment portfolios and trust solutions.
Knowledge of Canadian tax laws accounting structures.
Ability to foster and maintain private banking relationships with high level of competency.
Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, introducing the appropriate partners and suite of investment, trust, and banking solutions to high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, families and institutions.
Ability to apply credit expertise, and identify risk, within a specific banking industry or vertical.
Ability to complete necessary analysis and documentation to achieve credit actions related to Private Banker’s existing portfolio (e.g., structure, waivers, and modifications).
Formal credit training a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge financial analysis and modeling.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $175,000 - $210,000 for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
