As the Vice President, Group Insurance and Long-Term Care (GI & LTC) Data Science Lead in the U.S. Businesses (USB) Service, Data and Technology organization, you will partner with GI and LTC business leaders, technologists, machine learning engineers, data engineers and more. This role leads data scientists in the development of AI products that deliver significant business value. You will implement capabilities to solve meaningful business problems, deploy innovative products, services, and experiences to delight our customers! In addition to advanced technical expertise and experience, you will bring problem solving and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership demeanor, and a continuous learning focus to all that you do.
This role is based in our office in Newark, NJ. Our organization follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. This position is hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring weekly basis at least 2 days per week.
Here is what you can expect in a typical day:
- Drive Group Insurance AI and Data Science strategy and roadmap by identifying use cases from each business domain and taking into consideration business priorities in collaboration with domain leaders and product owners.
- Lead, provide guidance and review the design, development, and production of Generative AI, machine learning and statistical models aimed at achieving substantial business outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with technology, operations, governance, and business teams to manage dependencies, lead risk assessments, ensure operation readiness, support post-production adoption and continuous improvements in a timely manner.
- Support continuous innovation and thought leadership in the domain of Predictive Analytics, AI, and Machine Learning model design by bringing in industry leading trends and paradigms.
- Lead external vendors in the execution of parts of the data science development process.
- Work with members of Prudential’s Technology & Data teams, including leaders in the Chief Technology Office and Enterprise Architecture team, as well as other Data Science Leads to leverage internal best practices, identify synergies, and influence transformation through data solutions
- Engage with the Chief Data Office on Responsible AI, Data Management and Governance, Data and AI/ML platforms to ensure Group Insurance is delivering sustainable Predictive and AI solutions.
- Manage GI data science talent processes, including driving an innovative culture, adjusting training and career development strategies to reflect rapid evolution in data science domains, and strengthening the connection between the data science team and GI business partners.
- Bring a deep understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, give technical direction to team members, and embed learning and innovation in the day-to-day.
- Use programming languages including but not limited to Python, R, SQL, Java or Scala, SQL
The Skills and expertise you bring:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Math or Engineering related subject areas.
- Ability to lead independently with minimal guidance and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts, and perspectives to the benefit of the organization.
- Ability to learn new skills and domain knowledge on an ongoing basis through self-initiative and seeking challenges.
- Knowledge of business concepts, tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business.

- Ability to identify right emerging AI technologies, influence the business, and own a roadmap that generates significant competitive advantage.
Deep expertise with several of the following:
- Strategy: Ability to formulate original long-term and short-term strategies for achieving business outcomes. Ability to frame strategies in the form of a business plan backed by financial models.
- Influence: Adeptness in exerting influence across levels in a matrixed organization to drive business outcomes for data science and the business. Capable of working collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
- Generative AI: 1~2 years of experience in developing and deploying generative AI solutions, including design, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, performance measurement, and feedback loop.
- Data Acquisition and Transformation: Acquiring data from disparate data sources using API's, SQL and NoSQL. Transform data using SQL, NoSQL, and Python. Exploring data using a diverse tool set.
- Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning: Deep understanding of predictive modeling and machine learning theory, including the mathematics underlying algorithms. Expertise in the application of data science theory to building, training, testing, and monitoring machine learning models.
- Statistics and Computing: Exceptional understanding of: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability, Statistics, Applied Probability, Applied Statistics, Computer Science (Programming Methodologies), and Cloud. Knowledge of statistical techniques such as the use of descriptive, inferential, Bayesian statistics, time series analysis etc. to extract business insights and experimentation to solve business problems.
- Database Management System: Knowledge of how databases are structured and function to use them efficiently may include multiple data environments, cloud/AWS, primary and foreign key relationships, table design, database schemas, etc.
- Model Deployment: Understanding of: MDLC (Model Development Life Cycle), CI/CD/CT pipelines (using tools like Jenkins, CloudBees, Harness etc.), A/B testing. Pipeline frameworks like MLFlow, AWS SageMaker pipeline etc. model and data versioning.
- Data Wrangling: Preparing data for further analysis; Redefining and mapping raw data to generate insights; Processing of large datasets (structured, unstructured).
- Programming Languages: Python and SQL
- Data Visualization: Knowledge of data visualization standard methodologies, including how to select visualizations appropriate to the data and the data story. Data visualization technologies may include Tableau, Power BI, MS Excel, Google Analytics.

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $242,400.00 to $328,000.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
