What is the Public Relations Manager – Private Markets responsible for?
The Public Relations Manager - Private Markets, will be responsible for supporting and executing a comprehensive public relations strategy for the firm’s Private Markets Business. This role will involve managing media relations, crafting key messages, overseeing public relations campaigns, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a background in public relations within the asset management industry, experience in private markets and/or alternative investments, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to managing media and public interactions.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of the Public Relations Manager – Private Markets?
Media Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national, regional, and trade media outlets across print, broadcast and digital vehicles.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage media interviews, press releases, and other communications.
Strategy Execution
- While supporting the US Distribution team, develop and implement PR strategies and campaigns that align with company goals and enhance the firm’s reputation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to build and implement strategies for the Private Markets business inclusive of the alternatives and private credit platforms; Alts by FT, secondaries, venture capital, hedge funds and real estate.
- Create and manage a proactive media relations plan to increase positive coverage and manage any potential issues.
- Proactively develop and deliver strong pitch and story ideas to key journalists.
- Manage public relations agencies and work with team to deliver on KPIs.
- Prepare spokespeople for media interactions; represent FT Public Relations during interviews to ensure journalists receive the information they need and provide follow-up as necessary.
- Track industry news/developments and provide thoughtful assessments of ideas where the firm can add value on certain topics.
- Ensure that incoming queries are handled promptly.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with key stakeholders across the Private Markets business and the US Distribution team, as appropriate.
- Act as a team player within the Public Relations team and support colleagues as necessary.
- Collaborate with Marketing to align on content and messaging as well as product initiatives.
- Partner with social media team on thought leadership for the social media program.
- Monitor developments of negative news/trends that become media topics and alert internal constituents as appropriate.
Content Development
- Oversee the creation of differentiated content, including press releases, op-eds, speeches, and media kits.
- Ensure that all communications are consistent with the company's brand voice and messaging.
Monitoring And Analysis
- Track media coverage and measure the effectiveness of PR campaigns using analytics and performance metrics.
- Provide regular reports and insights on PR activities, media trends, and industry developments.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
- 7+ years of experience in public relations/corporate communications within the financial services industry.
- Extensive knowledge of Private Markets products including alternatives, private credit, secondaries, venture capital, and real estate.
- Strong relationships with key financial media.
- Experience in developing and implementing public relations programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills including the ability and desire to maintain open dialogues with multiple internal and external partners.
- Excellent writing and editing skills are required. The candidate must have experience in writing different types of communications vehicles including: press releases, media pitches, Q&As, social media postings, videos, etc.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be able to pivot quickly between topics/issues.
- Experience in prioritization across responsibilities and in defining metrics as well as how to report results.
- Ability to move at a fast pace and maintain deadlines while maintaining a high quality of work.
- Understands when and how to escalate errors and/or a situation that does not meet Franklin Templeton’s standards.
Franklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary—designed to support the whole person and to recognize their time, talents, and results. Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. We expect the salary for this position to range between $110,000.00 - $130,000.00.
