The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking a counselor to join its Benefits Counseling team. This position works directly with the STRS Ohio membership to provide education and information about retirement benefits and health care in retirement. Counselors meet with Ohio educators one-on-one to help them plan and prepare for retirement.

Compensation:
$70,000
Work Schedule:
8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday with occasional remote work opportunities. Requires travel approximately 25% of the time with an overnight stay usually necessary. Occasional evening, weekend and non-regular work hours may be required.
General Summary:
Under the direction of the assistant director, Benefits Counseling Services and a manager or supervisor, Counseling, provide services to State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) members and benefit recipients.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provide STRS Ohio members and benefit recipients information regarding features of their STRS Ohio retirement benefits via virtual and in-person conferences.
Calculate benefit estimates including, but not limited to service retirement benefits, disability benefits, and the purchase of service credit.
Requires travel approximately 25% of the time; overnight stays, evenings, and non-regular work hours to meet business needs.
Respond to written correspondence, telephone inquiries, email, and publication requests to promote a better understanding and awareness of the System's benefit provisions.
Conduct group benefit information meetings.

Summary of Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, business or related field required.
One to three years customer service experience required.
Excellent mathematical and grammatical skills required.
Ability to accurately interpret, apply and explain Ohio law, Administrative Code and STRS Ohio policies concerning retirement benefits required.
Ability to make presentations to groups in a clear, accurate and interesting manner.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Excellent organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment while meeting deadlines with minimal direct supervision required.
Excellent work record of attendance, punctuality, and the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet business needs.
