The Fixed Income Client Portfolio Manager (CPM) is a highly visible role within SSGA’s Investment Organization focused on representing our extensive investment capabilities to clients and prospects across channels in the Americas. In this capacity, the CPM plays an integral role in articulating the investment team’s core capabilities and value proposition, educating investors and supporting the sales and client servicing effort, developing thought leadership, and acting as a liaison with other critical teams within the Product and Marketing organizations to achieve our overall business objectives. In addition, as a senior member of the team, the CPM is responsible for mentoring junior team members, promoting and sustaining a strong, collaborative, supportive team culture, and representing the team to internal and external constituents.
The CPM will work closely with our client-facing teams to identify opportunities that can be addressed through Fixed Income, Cash Management and Currency portfolio management capabilities, with an emphasis on indexing strategies, including core index and complex beta capabilities. In order to succeed, it is imperative that the CPM can develop and sustain strong working partnerships with our investment, distribution, marketing, and product teams. In addition, the individual serves as a resource to offer perspective on their area of expertise and will have broad client-facing opportunities across various distribution channels. The CPM must have strong communications skills for frequent external and internal presentations and must be able to clearly articulate investment processes and results, economic and market trends, and strategy positioning, all in the context of helping clients achieve their unique investment objectives.
This position requires a strong foundation, and demonstrated interest in fixed income investing. You will have related (10+ years) investment experience in investment management, preferably gained in an investment-related capacity such as portfolio management, product management or investment consulting. A post-graduate or professional qualification (e.g. MBA or CFA) is preferred, though not required.

The Role
We are hiring a Fixed Income CPM, Vice President, reporting functionally to the US Head of Fixed Income Client Portfolio Management.
Primary Responsibilities
The CPM is focused on credibly representing our extensive fixed income capabilities to retain clients and enable growth primarily in the North American marketplace, and globally as required. This will involve partnering with investment teams, the Client Coverage Group, marketing, and other CPMs to understand client needs, our investment products, and how the intersection of these two areas can drive both client and firm success.
As Fixed Income Client Portfolio Manager, You Will
- Build deep relationships with portfolio management teams and the Client Coverage team
- Be seen as a credible alternative to senior portfolio managers
- Work collaboratively with distribution channels to identify opportunities for our fixed income strategies and drive business results
- Actively participate in key client and prospect meetings, focusing primarily on our index capabilities
- Convey information pertaining to the product and related markets to both internal and external clients
- Develop thought leadership including white papers, webinars, and seminar presentations
- Help drive strategy/product design in conjunction with research, portfolio management and product management teams
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of investment experience; prior experience in fixed income strategy representation and/or portfolio management is a plus
- Advanced degree and/or CFA, or similar indications of academic and professional achievement
- Critical understanding of financial theory and empirical research
- Ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholder
- Positive, collaborative attitude with a strong team orientation
- Willingness to mentor junior colleagues
- Ability to articulate our investment process and market views with conviction to sophisticated institutional clients and consultants
- Ambitious self-starter, able to perform in a team environment
- Business development, planning and implementation skills
- Knowledge of relevant platforms including, Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct
