We are seeking a Head of US Defined Benefit (DB) Investment Strategy to lead a newly created team with primary responsibility to increase State Street’s US Defined Benefit market share.
As an integral part of State Street’s US Retirement Team within the Chief Business Office (CBO), the Head of US DB Investment Strategy will work collaboratively across State Street Global Advisors to ensure a superior product offering and client support model. Specifically, working in partnership with State Street’s Client Coverage Group (CCG) and Investment organization, you will drive adoption of State Street investment solutions within DB plans and related transactions (e.g. OCIO, PRT).
You will lead a team of investment strategists as a player-coach and use your investment, sales, and entrepreneurial skills to create analysis highlighting the value of our offerings, targeted messaging and sales ideas, and supporting materials for our existing client base. In addition to supporting the sales process, the Investment Strategist plays a key role in improving upon and expanding our DB investment offerings through ongoing product innovation conducted in partnership with our investment teams and broader CBO organization.
The role is based in Boston, MA.
As Head of US Defined Benefit Investment Strategy, you will:
- Define and execute strategy to grow State Street’s US Defined Benefit market share
- Serve as internal and external DB expert on State Street’s capabilities and broader DB considerations (e.g. public vs. corporate, public policy, etc.)
- Work closely with the Client Coverage Group to engage Defined Benefit clients and their consultants on investment topics and broader channel trends
- Demonstrate deep understanding of Defined Benefit client needs and provide appropriate education and support internally
- Partner closely with Investment Teams to enhance existing capabilities and develop innovative investment offerings for the DB market
- Partner with Marketing to generate thought-provoking investment content in the Defined Benefit market
- Keep abreast of industry, market and company trends, and partner with business leaders to understand key concerns and opportunities for each line of business, tailor analysis and synthesis around these topics
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of financial services experience.
- Experience of working with Defined Benefit plans at a global asset manager or institutional consultant are advantageous
- Published author of a blog, white-paper, article, media appearances or other investment content available to the Defined Benefit investment community
- Available for travel regionally and globally as required
- Knowledge of Defined Benefit market, investment product use cases and applicability in Defined Benefit portfolios, as well as strong track record of demonstrated ability to engage at senior level on portfolio construction topics with investors.
- Critical understanding of macroeconomics, financial theory and empirical research
- Excellent communications skills to present sophisticated solutions to client
- Ability to work efficiently with and influence internal and external partners
- Positive attitude with a strong team orientation, and is enthusiastic to educate team members and clients, whilst developing and nurturing talent based in other geographical locations.

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual
