Business Group Overview
The Affiliate Partnerships Team (“APT”) is responsible for AMG’s investments in new and existing investment management companies (“Affiliates”). The APT identifies prospective Affiliates globally, as well as structuring and executing AMG’s investments in its partner firms. AMG’s strategy is to partner with high-quality management teams by investing directly into the management companies of investment managers across private equity, private credit, real assets, hedge funds, and wealth management, among other asset classes. In addition, the APT works with Affiliates across their full strategic agenda, including long-term strategic planning, human capital and succession planning, as well as organic and inorganic growth initiatives.
Title: Senior Associate, Affiliate Partnerships
The Role: AMG is seeking a Senior Associate for its Affiliate Partnerships Team, based outside of Boston, in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts, or in London. The position is a private equity investing role with responsibility for prospecting, analysis, and execution of investments in new Affiliates as well as the design and execution of strategic value creation initiatives with existing Affiliates.
Core Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and execute investments as part of small deal teams, including preparing and presenting investment memoranda, due diligence findings, and transaction documentation
- Co-ordinate all aspects of the transaction process and assist investment and corporate decisions with strategic analytics
- Drive financial analysis, valuation and structuring recommendations for potential investments, including developing underwriting assumptions, cash flow modeling and business diligence
- Conduct industry research and competitor analysis supporting strategic investment prospecting
- Present to AMG executive leadership on potential investments, value creation initiatives, and ongoing strategic matters
- Establish, develop and maintain relationships with senior leaders at prospective partner firms and existing Affiliates
- Assist with other strategic projects at Affiliates and AMG, including business planning, product development, growth capital, and human capital assessment
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree required (background in finance, accounting and/or economics preferred, but not required)
- At least 2 years’ work experience (at the moment of joining) in a fast paced, demanding environment
- Previous experience in M&A / investment banking, management consulting, or principal investing / private equity preferred, but not required
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, and writing skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Excellent work ethic, proactive / self-motivated disposition, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain the foregoing while managing several projects at once
- Strong cultural fit with AMG values
