Brown Advisory is currently seeking a professional, energetic, and detail-oriented individual to fill the Staff Accountant position within our Baltimore office location with primary responsibility for the day to day recording and review of financial transactions, accruals, and expenses. This individual is responsible for preparing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, performing variance analysis and preparing monthly internal financial reporting for senior leadership. This position is designed to allow for rewarding career growth and opportunities for advancement within the accounting function of a global independent investment management and strategic advisory firm.

You will regularly interact with team members within and outside the accounting team, providing high levels of customer service. You have an ability to communicate directly, concisely and with a balanced tone, on paper and verbally, formally and informally.
The ideal candidate should have a very strong interest and understanding of accounting. They must also have outstanding communication and writing skills, be attentive to details, and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working with multiple teams, including local and international teams. The candidate will develop strong working relationships with cross-functional partners and various levels of management.
The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General operational accounting duties related to:
Technology – Capital expenditure and operating expenses.
Firm Investments
Prepaid expenses and amortization
Treasury Management – preparation and recordation of cash disbursements, cash transfers, etc.
Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations, identifying and resolving reconciling items timely.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting for senior management.
Perform analysis to determine trends and significant changes to general ledger accounts.
Assist with the firmwide budgeting and forecasting processes.
Assist with year-end financial statement audits and other regulatory examination requests.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Perform ad hoc projects.
Qualifications
One or more years of accounting or financial industry related experience.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
CPA license (or progress towards passing CPA exams) preferred but not required.
Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply accounting principles.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
Detail-oriented self-starter comfortable working independently and understanding appropriate times to ask questions and managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Strong analytical, problem solving, research, verbal, and written communication skills.
Execution-focused, with the ability to take individual responsibility for delivering quality work in a timely manner.
A curious and inquisitive mindset will be beneficial in this role.
Excellent computer skills, particularly in navigating detailed system-generated source reports, downloading and analyzing data, and Excel functions.
Ability to build, foster, and maintain positive professional relationships.
Ability to work in an office location.
Salary: $62-73k Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
