Director, US Commodities Valuation Control
We are seeking a very experienced US Commodities Valuation expert to help grow our Commodities business. Commodities is one of the newest and fastest growing businesses at BAM, rapidly onboarding new markets and staff around the globe to grow financial and physical trading capabilities. This role will work collaboratively with Portfolio Managers, Risk, Finance, Operations and other areas of across the firm.
In the role of Director, US Commodities Valuation Control in the New York or Houston office, the employee will be responsible for the following:
· Lead the valuation efforts for physical gas and power transactions, with a focus on the US and North American markets.
· Ensure all valuation activities adhere to US GAAP and FASB Fair Value Measurement standards, maintaining the highest level of compliance and integrity.
· Oversee the preparation and review of daily, monthly, and quarterly valuation reports, ensuring their accuracy and timeliness for senior management and portfolio managers (PMs).
· Develop and implement procedures to enhance the accuracy and reliability of valuation and PnL reports.
· Conduct PnL reconciliation, comparing actual results with PM estimates and providing detailed explanations for any variances.
· Ensure transparent and clear communication of daily PnL to PMs, facilitating informed decision-making.
· Collaborate closely with the Risk Quant team and Technology team to develop and maintain robust, cutting-edge valuation models and systems for both physical and financial commodity products.
· Ensure models are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current market conditions and risks.
· Work collaboratively with trading, risk management, and finance teams to ensure consistent and accurate valuation practices across the firm.
· Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate the seamless exchange of information and insights.
· Provide expert guidance and thought leadership on complex valuation issues, addressing challenges with innovative solutions.
· Ensure the valuation team remains up-to-date with regulatory changes and industry best practices, adapting processes as necessary to maintain compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in valuation within hedge funds, banks, energy companies or consulting firms, with a focus on US and North America physical Gas and Power trading.
· Demonstrable expertise in valuation and risk management of North American energy markets.
· Strong knowledge of US GAAP and FASB guidelines related to fair value measurement.
· Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
· Proficiency in valuation models and financial analysis tools.
· Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to handle large datasets.
· Experience with trading and risk management systems used in commodity markets.
· Ability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic work environment.

· Strong personal ownership and ability to resolve issues independently
· Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
· Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex valuation concepts to non-specialists.
· Energetic with team player mentality
· Experience working in Endur/Open Link is a plus
· Master’s degree in financial engineering or mathematical finance is a plus
· Proficiency in Python / SQL is a plus
With respect to NY and CA based applicants, the starting base pay range for this role is between $175000 and $250000 annually. The actual base pay is dependent upon several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, business needs and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus compensation and employee benefits.
