BAIN CAPITAL SPECIAL SITUATIONS OVERVIEW
Bain Capital Special Situations has invested $35 billion in more than 900 deals across a balanced geographic mix of investments in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific since its founding in 2002. We provide bespoke capital solutions to meet the diverse needs of companies, entrepreneurs, and asset owners - in all market cycles. The strategy brings together equity and credit expertise, as well as corporate and real asset expertise, to provide solutions which cannot be met by traditional providers. Our dedicated, global team of approximately 140 investment and portfolio professionals contribute the local expertise and capabilities that enable these diverse investments.
PORTFOLIO GROUP OVERVIEW
Bain Capital has a dedicated global Portfolio Group within the firm’s Special Situations business. The Portfolio Group is responsible for fund and asset management and leads the strategy and analysis on fund construction, risk, and opportunities for the Special Situations funds ($20B AUM).
The Portfolio Group works side-by-side with Special Situations leadership and deal teams to provide extensive support, whenever and wherever needed on analytical, strategic, and operating issues. These capabilities help to optimize Bain Capital funds through leverage, cash management, and portfolio construction, and to develop and execute strategies to increase profitability and grow the broader Special Situations business. We are currently hiring an Associate to work as part of the Portfolio Group in our Boston office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain projection models for all Global Special Situations (GSS) funds
- Monitor cash position of GSS funds; maintain funding pipeline and coordinate capital calls / distributions
- Assist with fund financing initiatives, including structuring, modeling and fund-level impact analyses
- Provide analytical support in fundraising and investor reporting processes for the GSS business
- Assist with management of US Special Situations portfolio reporting that tracks value creation initiatives, risk factors, and KPIs
- Maintain system for tracking fund information for the entire Special Situations business, including asset allocations, capital activity, investor composition, returns history and trajectory, fund financings, risk factors, and value creation initiatives
- Support in the evaluation and analysis of new fund investment products, business lines, and strategies
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong academic credentials (BS/BA from highly regarded institution) and a demonstrated track record of successful work experience; undergraduate concentration in Finance and/or CFA designation is a plus
1-4 years of corporate, finance, financial operations, or data analytics experience; prior asset management experience and/or understanding of various investment products and asset classes (e.g., private equity, credit) is a plus
Robust Excel skills with an ability to efficiently and effectively build financial models and analyze large sets of data; VBA and PowerBI experience is a plus
Proficient in Powerpoint with ability to effectively communicate insights from analyses to a diverse set of stakeholders
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to manage relationships across various levels of seniority across the organization
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and work in a high-paced, team-oriented environment
A successful candidate must have a positive, can-do attitude while demonstrating the capability to use critical thinking to create analyses to answer complex questions about the business
