Job title
JOB DESCRIPTION
You’ll be part of a growing Private Wealth and Advisor Service team – led and based in Boston – developing and maintaining relationships with financial advisors, distribution channels, and OCIO firms through discussion of and investment in the Payden US mutual funds, CITs, 3(c)7, and separate account strategies. That means both individual advisor/OCIO and National Accounts type work, representing the firm, our views, and our strategies to firms and their research teams. Your primary focus would be medium-to-large size RIAs (generally non-wire “private wealth” firms), independent broker-dealers, regional banks, and OCIOs.
The right way to consider this role is you will be the “owner” of this business in your region, so entrepreneurial thinking is important. It’s about region, team, and firm success – not how many “dials” you made last week.
We have a regional, not channel, business model – you would focus on the Northeast region as we seek to expand our coverage.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Raise new assets in our various commingled (primarily 40Act) funds and strategies
- Call on and interact constantly with advisor prospects, OCIOs, and clients – your focus will generally be in-person meetings, but skills via Zoom, the phone, email, other web portals, etc. are necessary too
- Confidently – and on your own – provide relevant market insight, product information, and investment ideas (investors will accompany you from time to time)
- Strategize with the broader Private Wealth & Advisor Team and institutional client portfolio managers on various marketing ideas, materials, business priorities – you will be empowered and heard
- Help facilitate investments within our Payden strategies on a National Account level through platform agreements, fees, availability, etc.
- Represent the priorities and ideas of the broader Team to the firm and outside groups
- Consider and evaluate vendors
- Interact and collaborate with our fund operations effort
QUALIFICATIONS
- Heavy on consultative new business skills
- A positive and higher-energy human being
- A resourceful self-starter – if you find yourself asking “Who’s doing that?” the answer is “You are!”
- Organized
- Intellectually curious and intelligent and passionate about investing – bond knowledge is critical
- Understands and values an independent firm
- Goal driven
- Excellent people skills: you are engaging, trusting, and people want to work with you
- Able to hear plenty of “No” … and try, try again
- Friendly, and genuinely enjoy a team environment, yet ready to run with projects independently
- Relationship building is important to you
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a desire to take feedback from your talented peers
- Hunger to build a business as part of small team
- You believe the joy is in the chase, not in maintaining status quo (you root for David, not Goliath)
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field
- FINRA Series 6 and 63 licensed
We offer competitive compensation comprised of salary, discretionary bonus, and 401k/profit-sharing based on level of experience and skills brought to bear as well as full range of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
Our employees work together in our downtown Boston office, benefiting from our collaborative, team-oriented culture that has been the foundation of our success. We have always been a firm that has awarded flexibility to our employees.
