Job Description:
The role of Client Portfolio Manager (CPM) will act as the primary relationship manager for an assigned set of IR+M institutional client relationships. The CPM is responsible for managing the firm’s existing client relationships and will collaborate closely with the rest of the Client Service Team (CST), Investment Team members and other internal constituents to ensure that we deliver an exceptional client experience with a focus on client retention and growth.
In addition, the CPM is expected to understand client and consultant market trends, assist in informing the firm’s thought leadership as well as product development efforts. This role requires a deep knowledge of fixed income markets and the North American investment consultant landscape with the ability to effectively communicate IR+M’s investment philosophy and process. The CPM must exemplify best practices in team collaboration and relationship building across the firm to best position IR+M to exceed our clients’ expectations. Moderate domestic travel is expected as part of the role.
This role is a Boston based position and will report to the Head of Client Strategy.
Responsibilities:
Client Relationship Management
- Client Coverage: Act as the primary relationship manager for an assigned set of existing client relationships, ensuring we provide an exceptional client experience. Assume related consultant coverage as needed.
- Deep Client Understanding: Demonstrate a deep understanding of each client’s business, asset allocation, consultant relationships, key influencers and decision-making process.
- Team-Based Approach: Partner with the broader CST team to drive client and consultant engagement to bring the best of IR+M to our clients and their consultants/partners.
- Proactive Mindset: Provide proactive and differentiated client service (e.g., thought leadership, timely content). Anticipate and develop opportunities to expand and strengthen existing client relationships.
- Thought Leadership: Seek market and industry thought leadership opportunities to demonstrate IR+M’s brand and fixed income expertise.
- Market Intelligence: Share market intelligence and represent the firm related to client trends and channel specialization.
- CRM Management: Maintain thorough and timely use of firm CRM for client engagement and activity, in alignment with CST best practices for communication and transparency.
Team Collaboration
- Work in collaboration with cross-functional colleagues to ensure we are always putting client needs first to ensure a world class client experience.
- Mentor and participate in the development of Client Portfolio Analysts (CPA) and other CPMs.
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and dig into the details (no job too small)
- Effectively leverage the firm’s investment collateral, thought leadership and resources to develop meaningful engagement clients and consultants.
- Continue to build the IR+M brand for investment and client service excellence and act as a steward of the firm’s strong culture internally and externally.
- Be a champion of asking for and delivering constructive feedback with colleagues with the objective of recognizing excellence and continuous improvement.
- Assist and/or participate in firm and team special projects as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record working in a relationship management capacity with institutional clients
- Deep understanding of institutional consultants and the role they play with institutional clients
- Strong understanding of fixed income and the capital markets landscape
- Proven ability to lead large, sophisticated and complex client relationships
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to command a room through professional presence and gravitas
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with proven ability to protect, nurture and grow relationships
- Ability to manage through the full client lifecycle from assisting with the sales process to overseeing new client onboarding and managing the overall client relationship.
- Possess effective communication skills and be capable of engaging clients and consultants, leading thoughtful discussions on investment matters and plan sponsor and consultant opportunities and challenges
- Ability to convey credibility, confidence, and trust on investment related topics
- Team player who is a self-starter and natural leader, with proven ability to support colleagues
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, set goals and meet deadlines
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree a plus
- CFA or other investment management related certifications strongly preferred

In addition to the opportunity to participate in a discretionary bonus program, the salary range below describes the estimated minimum to maximum base salary range for a position of this level. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each candidate and may vary based upon but not limited to relevant experience, licensure requirements, certifications, skill set, and other business and organizational needs.
Base Salary Range:
$165,000 - $220,000
Annual Performance Bonus:
This role is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus
