Balyasny Asset Management is seeking an experienced Counsel team member for its Chicago office. The employee will report to the Senior Associate General Counsel and will work closely with both the Legal Department and internal stakeholders. The primary focus will be to assist the Legal Department with drafting and reviewing of contracts across the employee lifecycle.
In the role of Counsel, the employee will be responsible for the following:
- Reviewing and drafting employment contracts, including but not limited to, employment contracts, compensation arrangements, and termination documents
- Maintain and update, as necessary, template employment contract documents
- Assist in ensuring firm’s compliance with employment law for a multi-jurisdictional employee base
- Review and handle various legal inquiries by business units
- Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment, with good judgment regarding when to elevate issues.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
In order to effectively represent the Company and communicate with clients, the employee must be someone who has:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as negotiation, drafting, employment or transactional agreement experience.
- Practical experience with legal matters in financial services industry is preferred
- Strong desire to work collaboratively with the team
- Maintains a high standard of professionalism in all dealings with internal staff and any external partners, clients and regulatory agencies
- Problem solving skills and ability to identify and implement appropriate solutions
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently to meet/exceed deadline
- Consistent work ethic through hard work, confidence and effort
- Outstanding attention to detail and strong organization skills
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- 2-3 years of legal experience preferred
- Juris Doctorate Degree
- Prior experience working in labor and employment, or the financial services industry is a plus
