This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 20% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer III on the Global Equity team.
Global Equity is the largest asset class by market value in the total fund and is dedicated to maximizing risk-adjusted returns. The Global Equity team manages more than $80 billion in assets internally in passive index strategies across the U.S., developed non-U.S. and emerging markets. The remainder of the portfolio is invested with external investment managers in active equity strategies. The overall portfolio is diversified across market capitalization, style, region, and investment strategy.
Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer III assists in the management of the Global Equity external manager portfolios, actively participates to formulate, recommend, and implement Global Equity investment strategies, and evaluates prospective equity strategies in accordance with approved policies, procedures, and guidelines. Additionally, the incumbent provides knowledge and expertise on the investment opportunities and risks associated with CalSTRS’ net zero goals and objectives. The incumbent is responsible for performing the most complex duties requiring the highest degree of independence and discretionary judgment.

- Experience overseeing portfolios
- Experience in project management
- Experience in coaching and mentoring staff
- Knowledge of economic principles and trends, and their impact on investment portfolio
- Knowledge of Global Equity policies, systems, processes, and controls
- Expertise in the market conditions, investment trends and policy developments
- Ability to gather and analyze a broad range of economic and investment information
- Ability to synthesize information into concise and coherent conclusions and recommendations
- Ability to prepare and present reports to the teachers’ retirement board
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple asset classes
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing with all level of staff and management
- Possession of an advanced degree or certification such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
