About Us:The Retirement Systems Division administers the statutory retirement and fringe benefit plans as authorized by the General Assembly of North Carolina. These include the following six major retirement plans: Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System, the Legislative Retirement System, the Local Government Employees' Retirement Program, the Consolidated Judicial Retirement System, the Optional Retirement Program, and Firemen's and Rescue Squad Workers' Pension Fund. The Retirement Processing Section is responsible for receiving, calculating, approving, and processing all applications for retirement benefits for seven retirement systems representing State and local employees. The Retirement Analyst is also responsible for determining member eligibility for retirement, calculating benefits, and providing correspondence regarding options.Job Duties:- Pulls workflows for processing retirement applications; verifies information in AX and?ORBIT; verifies date of birth, tentative beneficiary; reviews employer information such as projected last date of work, salary, vacation/sick/bonus balances.
- Determines average final compensation.
- Calculates a tentative retirement benefit amount.
- Provides correspondence to the member with the tentative amount and the various retirement options.
- ORBIT calculates the maximum allowable and other options, but those amounts are always double-checked by manual calculations; reconciles amounts.
- Ensures member and beneficiary information is correct in ORBIT since allocations may be different based upon option chosen and beneficiary’s age.
- Calculates retirement benefits for the more complex cases such as: 10/12 month teacher, Option 4 (SS leveling), Agricultural Extension member, and non-contributory service (Workers’ Compensation, Short/Long-Term Disability).
- Contacts employer if there is an error in reporting or if there are gaps in the provided information.
- Discusses service purchases and options associated with members possessing State and local service credits.
- Performs recalculations based upon final vacation and sick days.

- Experience independently selecting workflows, while understanding and applying a variety of different software programs, databases, information systems, and specialized equipment.
- Experience reviewing and processing high volumes of claims or applications, such as disability claims, bank/mortgage loans, child support payments/garnishments, insurance claims.
Management Preferences: - Basic level Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills.
