The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping and boating laws. The NCWRC employs 700 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s Inland Fisheries Division manages, conserves, enhances, and restores the State’s freshwater fishes, mussels, crayfish and supporting aquatic habitats through fisheries research, fisheries management, hatchery operation, and habitat conservation.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Conservation Management Administrator (Inland Fisheries Division Chief) for our Inland Fisheries Division. The Inland Fisheries Division Chief is responsible for managing, supervising, planning, budgeting, developing and supporting the employees, programs, activities, products and events produced by the Inland Fisheries Division. The position oversees three major ?sheries program areas: Fisheries Management, Fish Production, and Aquatic Wildlife Diversity.
The Inland Fisheries Division Chief will also:
- Join other division chiefs within the agency to assist executive management in planning, determining, forecasting, and prioritizing the agency’s activities, objectives, and goals.
- Apply an understanding of the agency’s goals and objectives to the activities of the division and ensure that these activities support and promote the accomplishment of the agency’s mission.
- Supervise direct reports who implement the day-to-day operations of the division.
A Monday-Friday schedule is associated with this position which involves working 40 hours per week. This position is eligible for teleworking under the agency’s current telework policy of one day per week as approved by management. This position has statewide responsibilities. Assignments, work and projects require frequent travel in state, and occasional travel out of the state. This position is based in the WRC Headquarters in Raleigh, NC (Wake Co.).

Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
- Knowledge of WRC goals, objectives, policies, and procedures;
- Experience planning and/or administering program budgets;
- Experience supervising a work unit’s staff and/or operations; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (such as administrators, biologists, wildlife/fisheries groups, and government officials).
Management Preferences:
- Experience managing agency grants and contracts;
- Experience evaluating research, survey, and management projects relevant to aquatic species conservation, management, disease or propagation;
- Experience formulating management and regulatory recommendations; and
- Experience communicating complex information to executive management, commissioners, and legislators.
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 90 days of hire.

Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience;
OR
Bachelor’s degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, fisheries science, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and eight years of related experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
