121Brown Advisory is currently seeking a professional, energetic and detail oriented individual to fill the Alternative Investment Fund Tax Manager position. This position could be located in our Baltimore, New York, or Washington, DC location. The position has been created due to internal growth of the Brown Advisory tax function and is designed to allow for rewarding career growth and opportunities for advancement within the corporate tax function of a global independent investment management and strategic advisory firm.
A successful candidate will demonstrate the following key attributes:
Be thorough and accurate. You will be responsible for the timely and accurate filing of a wide range of tax and regulatory filings.
Be proactive. You are eager to contribute and learn, ask lots of questions, and suggest improvements. You must be adaptable to changing circumstances and regulatory changes for both US and non-US tax regimes.
Work independently and follow tasks through to completion, proactively seeking guidance as necessary.
Have a positive attitude and the desire to continually develop as a tax professional within the Brown Advisory organization. This includes always striving to provide the highest level of service to support our team members across the organization as well as our clients.
Duties/Responsibilities of Position:
Partner with the Director of Tax to advise relevant stakeholders of the tax implications of alternative investment fund investments.
Serve as a primary point of contact with external tax service providers.
Coordinate the delivery of K-1s for alternative investment partnership funds.
Liaise with the Brown Advisory Fund Administration team as well as the third-party fund administrator with respect to accounting packages, partner allocations, underlying fund K-1s, investor information and more as needed.
Prepare and maintain schedules for K-1 tracking, foreign investor reporting info, stock distributions, partner transfers, state filing information, partner address changes, etc.
Coordinate the timely filing of income tax, personal property, and other annual filings.
Coordinate any required tax-related payments with tax service providers and accounts payable team.
Track and timely address federal and state tax notices
Work with the client service teams to ensure maintenance of investor information needed for K-1 reporting.
Conduct tax research and draft memorandum on a variety of tax issues as required.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations.
Your Education, Technical Skills and Experiences Need to Include:
5-7 years total work experience in public accounting or at a private equity firm.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related field
CPA License
Prior experience with Partnership Tax Compliance required
Prior experience with alternative investment funds required
Excellent tax research skills
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Detail oriented with ability to multi-task and stay organized
MDSalary: $95-120k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
DC Salary: $104-132k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
NY Salary: $114-144k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
