This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 150% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Senior Investment Director over Strategic Management & Operations.
Under the direction of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Senior Investment Director (SID), Strategic Management & Operations, is responsible for developing, implementing, and providing oversight of the Investment Branch’s strategic priorities, business operational management, and Investment Services divisions. The incumbent ensures adherence to investment policies, mitigates business and operational risks, and addresses audit-related issues. The SID forges strong relationships with peer leaders, CalSTRS Executives, and business partners, making strategic recommendations and decisions that significantly impact the fund. The SID also assists the CIO in developing relationships with the Investment Committee and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Extensive knowledge of investment principles and practices across multi-asset classes, both public and private
- Knowledge of investment accounting and various investment transactions
- Experience providing oversight and management of investment performance, investment compliance/ethics programs, investment cost projects, or investment operations for a large institutional investment portfolio
- Experience participating in the development and implementation of investment policies and strategies
- Experience evaluating operational and compliance risk
- Experience presenting information or findings to a Board and/or an Investment Committee
- Experience managing a broad range of professional investment staff
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team to support team, unit, and Investments Branch goals
- Ability to promote cross-functional collaboration and communication in support of CalSTRS strategic plan, Investment Policy and Management Plan and business goals
- Possession of a degree in Business/Finance/Economics or closely related field
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
