This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 150% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Senior Investment Director over the Private Markets and Sustainable Investing and Stewardship Strategies Division.
Under the direction of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Senior Investment Director, Private Markets and Sustainable Investing and Stewardship Strategies (SISS) serves as the senior leader over the Private Markets Asset Class Directors (Real Estate, Private Equity and Inflation Sensitive) and the Director of SISS. The incumbent oversees the management of internal and external investment portfolios and the execution of investment committee policies and the Investment Policy and Management Plan. In addition, the incumbent works with the CIO to spearhead sustainable investment strategies, stewardship strategies, corporate governance, and engagement of portfolio companies and asset managers to mitigate risk and add create value to the total fund. The incumbent makes investment decisions that have a significant impact on the fund, makes tactical and strategic investment recommendations, and advises the CIO on a variety of sophisticated investment portfolio management strategies and decisions.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Knowledge of private markets within investments
- Experience working with a senior management team
- Experience developing and overseeing investment strategy initiatives
- Experience executing, adhering to and providing guidance on investment policies
- Experience managing internal and external investment portfolios
- Experience in developing strategic goals and objectives, asset allocation, business plans, budgetary planning
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with asset class directors to ensure consistency
- Ability to present recommendations to a board or similar governing body
- Possession of a degree in Business/Finance/Economics or closely related field
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
