Job Description
Accounting Policy advisor based in New York with responsibility for the execution of complex accounting matters, the implementation, and application of accounting policies, collaborating with and advising the front office and Finance management on significant transactions, and representing Controllers on key control initiatives and control committees.
- Reports to US Head of Accounting Policy
- Exposure to senior members of Jefferies, including the Chief Accounting Office and the Global Controller, and will interact with Jefferies Financial Reporting Group
Key Attributes
Candidate has a strong technical accounting background and experience within the financial services industry (minimum seven years overall experience). Ability to analyze and communicate complex, technical matters succinctly and in non-technical terms, both in person and in writing, is essential.
Practicality and consideration of overall organizational needs is a key skill set for operationalizing accounting considerations. Strong execution skills. Must have ability to work both independently and collaborate across Corporate functions to fulfill responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Research technical accounting issues supporting multiple businesses throughout the firm. Topics include revenue recognition, consolidations, financial instruments, securitizations and equity method accounting.
- Preparation of technical accounting memos to document and support conclusion reached on accounting research.
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards.
- Interact with various functions across the finance department, such as Product and Corporate Controllers, Treasury and Risk Management, to communicate technical accounting conclusions and related financial statement impacts, and assistance in the development of processes to support the related accounting treatment.
- Preparation of certain elements of the financial statements and footnote disclosures, such as disclosures related to variable interest entities.
- Monitor new accounting developments and the potential impact to Jefferies.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience relevant experience
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Ability to analyze and assess technical accounting guidance
- Understating of financial statements and footnotes
- CPA required
- Financial services background a plus
Primary Location: New York, NY Full Time Salary Range of $165,000-$180,000.

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
