Corporate Controllers at Jefferies are the gatekeepers of the Firm’s books and records, ensuring accuracy and integrity across all financial reporting. They work closely with Controllers and Operations to confirm that every transaction is properly recorded and reflected in the General Ledger. With a strong focus on controls, Corporate Controllers collaborate across departments to maintain the reliability of the Firm’s financial statements at both the consolidated and legal entity levels.
Position Summary
The US Corporate Controller leads onshore and offshore teams responsible for the Firm’s core accounting and financial operations. This role oversees the monthly close and firmwide consolidation processes, ensures balance sheet integrity, and drives compliance across legal entities. Responsibilities include overseeing the close process, maintaining strong internal controls and process procedures, preparing financial disclosures, managing corporate accounting processes, and overseeing accounts payable while driving automation and process improvements. The role also provides analysis of the consolidated balance sheet, support audits, and maintains strong governance over legal entity and balance sheet substantiation. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment while both producing results and leading high‑performing teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage the firmwide financial statement close, including consolidation, equity pick-up, intercompany reconciliation, netting, and eliminations.
- Oversee specialized accounting areas: leases, fixed assets, goodwill, cash, prepaid assets, pensions, consolidation, equity, and intercompany transactions.
- Collaborate with Operations to resolve intercompany mismatches and ensure accurate financial statement adjustments.
- Monitor firmwide balance sheet substantiation and ensure compliance with substantiation policies for all accounts.
- Maintain integrity of general ledger controls, implement chart field changes, oversee journal entry processes, and distribute monthly financial statements.
- Ensure timely preparation of global balance sheet due diligence for quarterly CFO reviews.
- Prepare financial disclosures for the 10Q/10K reporting.
- Manage and enhance the accounts payable process, including controls and outsourcing initiatives.
- Support audits and policy enforcement.
- Drive efficiency through automation and continuous process enhancements.
- Provide guidance to junior team members and manage outsourced relationships effectively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA required
- 15+ years of accounting experience with a blend of public accounting and private industry
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Proven ability to analyze financial data, prepare clear reports, and communicate results effectively to senior stakeholders
- Experience leading US-based teams and partnering with global and offshore teams
- Demonstrated ability to adopt and leverage new technologies, including automation and emerging tools such as AI‑enabled solutions and analytics platforms (e.g., Sigma)
- Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to efficiently analyze, manipulate, and interpret large data sets
Primary Location: Jersey City, NJ Full Time Salary Range of $200,000- $225,000

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
