Purpose: Contributes to the overall success of the FICC trading businesses through a hedge facilitation effort supporting the newly established mortgage origination lending effort in the Scotiabank Houston Branch. The role is to ensure specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Also ensures all activities comply with governing regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do
- Facilitate TBA (to be announced) hedges in the agency mortgage interdealer broker market as directed by the mortgage originating clients on a best efforts basis
- Focus on best execution from a pricing and cost basis to the client in dependable, extremely responsive, and accountable way
- Work closely with the mortgage lending/banking team in the Houston Branch wrt the hedging activity, both the placing of the hedges and the execution of the unwinds along with levels and client satisfaction
- Work under and within the Rates Trading desk in the U.S. while sharing rates strategy and insight into the rates environment with the clients as well as the client facing bankers
- Through the best execution hedging activity help to improve the shareholder returns through the active revenue generation from the mortgage origination lending banking team
- Develops and maintains internal relationships with key support groups; collaborates with all internal stakeholders to ensure new products/transactions are executed in accordance with Bank policies
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Understands the risk profile of customer transactions and puts processes in place to manage those risks
- Protects the bank from loss and/or exposure to unnecessary risks through strict compliance with applicable policies and regulations as applicable
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas while ensuring the adequacy and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls in order to meet operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk obligations
- Ensures the team operates in accordance with Scotiabank Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles
- Mentors and trains junior team members; leads by example in maintaining high standards of diligence and performance
- Builds a high-performance team and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates by using coaching mindset and behaviors, communicating vision, values, and business strategy as well as managing development and succession planning for the team
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in a financial discipline
- 5+ years of experience in Fixed Income Trading with a comprehensive understanding of the mortgage backed securities product universe
- Series 7 and 63 licenses
