Purpose and Job Summary:
ORIX’s Portfolio Management team is seeking to hire a Director for its New York office. The Portfolio Management team reports to the Head of Integrated Risk and Portfolio Management and is responsible for the ongoing portfolio management and monitoring of ORIX’s investments across its Private Credit, Private Equity, and Real Estate businesses. It’s key function is to identify credit migration and risk mitigation strategies in coordination with the business and the Risk Management team.
The Director’s overall objective is to manage ORIX’s portfolio exposure to Structured Credit assets. The Director will determine the appropriate investment risk ratings through the ongoing review of financial metrics, the completion of periodic reviews of business line reports, liquidity and valuation analysis, covenant review and testing, monitoring of industry news articles and other early warning alerts, quarterly investment reporting, and the preparation of Watch-List review.
In this role, the Director will work closely with the Originations and Underwriting teams to actively manage the dialogue with the underlying portfolio assets and assist in the evaluation of amendments and/or collateral modifications. In parallel, the Director will also work with other members of the Portfolio Management team and other stakeholders on various strategic initiatives related to portfolio management, including enhancements to data quality, management and reporting, process improvements, credit research papers, and the development/review of policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring of Structured Credit portfolio investments – analyze financial KPIs, underlying end markets, and sector trends; track financial performance and covenants against expectations; understand levers and negotiation tactics associated with credit documentation; prepare discussion materials for internal portfolio reviews, and present to senior management
- Financial and credit analysis – review valuation analyses; assess asset values, collateralization and liquidity; recommend changes to risk ratings, credit reserves, and impairments; evaluate amendment and/or collateral modification requests
- Monitor portfolio KPIs and communicate and co-ordinate risk mitigation strategies as risk(s) evolve
- Prepare portfolio management presentations for senior management that include analytics on expected portfolio performance and areas of potential risk and/or opportunity
- Establish and leverage cross-business partnerships and network with key internal and external constituencies
- Assist the Portfolio Management team on various projects, which may focus on, but are not limited to, data quality, monitoring process, or governance
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Education, Skills and Experience:
- At least 5+ years of underwriting, portfolio management and/or credit review experience related to structured credit at an investment bank, large commercial bank or insurance company. Experience in structuring bespoke asset backed financing a plus
- Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related subject; completion or progress towards an MBA or CFA preferred
- In-depth understanding of structured credit, including a strong understanding of legal documentation and traded CMBS, RMBS, CLO products
- Completion of a formal credit training program is a plus
- Strong accounting and financial modeling skills
- Superior analytical, organizational, and written and verbal skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Advanced knowledge of Excel; Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks at the same time
- Motivated, self-starter, and team player; strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-performance team.
Annual base salary gross: $170,000 - $200,000 (NY only). The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of the ORIX USA’s salary for this position. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX USA’s total compensation package for employees.
