Purpose and Job Summary
The Lument Legal Department is seeking a mid-level attorney with commercial real estate lending and general corporate law experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for regularly counseling Lument and occasionally its parent, ORIX Corporation USA, its U.S. and foreign affiliates, and its ultimate parent, ORIX Corporation (Tokyo: 8591 and NYSE: IX).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing outside counsel and directly supporting all legal aspects of financing transactions for Lument’s commercial real estate lending, investing, and asset management activities, including Lument’s balance sheet lending and Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and FHA financings.
- Working on loan modifications, workouts, restructurings, and other loan portfolio management activities.
- Advising on corporate financing matters, including warehouse loan agreements.
- Drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and analyzing a wide range of commercial contracts, including office leases.
- Analyzing and advising on various regulatory matters, including state licensing laws and requirements.
- Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of trends and practices on legal issues and documents relevant to the applicable business units.
- Ongoing counseling, improvement, and implementation of various corporate policies, initiatives, and programs.
- Other projects and duties as needed.

Education, Experience, and Skills
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission in good standing to the bar.
- An undergraduate degree in finance, business administration or economics is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of large law firm or comparable in-house corporate experience.
- Excellent business judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Commitment to innovative and continuous process improvement activities.
- Polished and effective negotiation, communication, and drafting skills suitable for interaction with external parties and all levels of the organization, including senior managers and executives.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and explain complex contractual terms to business clients in a simple, practical manner.
- Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments, and to meet critical and established deadlines.
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and adjust priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Possesses strong character and principles, embracing the values of the legal and compliance profession.
- Strong interest in business, finance, and the capital markets, as well as familiarity with or a willingness to learn and understand underlying business and financial concepts.
