What you’ll be doing
As a Community Development Affordable Housing Relationship Manager (RM), you’ll play a vital role in supporting community development initiatives by underwriting, originating, and managing a portfolio of loans focused on low-income housing tax-credit (LIHTC) financed projects. You’ll work directly with clients throughout the entire loan life cycle, ensuring that their needs are met while aligning with the bank’s CRA objectives.
This role requires building and maintaining strong client relationships and representing CIBC in community development and affordable housing-related forums. You’ll manage all aspects of loan processes, from initial client engagement to credit approval and closing, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
How you’ll succeed
• Build client relationships: Cultivate and maintain relationships with clients and financial partners to support community development affordable housing initiatives, particularly LIHTC projects.
• Own the loan life cycle: Manage all phases of the loan process, including underwriting, credit approval, loan closing, and portfolio management.
• Be a community development advocate: Represent CIBC in affordable housing and community development-related settings, showcasing our commitment to community revitalization.
• Stay informed: Maintain a strong knowledge base of community development financing programs, financial products, bank credit policies, underwriting standards, and CRA objectives.
• Provide solutions: Think outside the box to identify creative solutions that address client needs while meeting CIBC’s standards.
• Ensure compliance: Collect and manage all project and client documentation to meet due diligence requirements, achieve credit approvals, and ensure successful loan closings.

What you need to succeed
• Education: A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree in community development, urban planning, real estate finance, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: At least five to seven years of professional experience in community development finance, real estate finance, urban planning, or commercial banking. Direct experience with LIHTC projects is highly preferred.
• Skills:
Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of community development financing programs, CRA objectives, and bank credit policies.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $125,000 - $160,000 for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
