The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join its Legal Department.

Compensation:
$122,403-$153,004
Work Schedule:
8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday, with up to two days per week remote work opportunities.
General Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, handle the day-to-day legal issues of the Executive Director and the various departments of the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio.)
Summary of Responsibilities:
Provide legal information, advice or other services to STRS Ohio management and staff, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: Member Benefits, Health Care, Governmental Relations, Human Resource Services and Administration of STRS Ohio.
Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other agreements.
Review and respond to legal pleadings, subpoenas, documents and correspondence.
Coordinate representation of STRS Ohio in litigation; develop case strategies and oversee/monitor litigation as applicable to the focus area(s.)

Summary of Qualifications:
Juris doctor degree and admission to the Ohio Bar required.
Minimum of five years of relevant legal experience, including experience in interpreting state and federal law in a law firm or in-house legal department preferred.
Experience in public pension preferred.
Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills required.
Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal principles to non-legal professionals required.
Excellent research, analytical and organizational skills with an emphasis on problem solving and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
