Job Description
The Compensation Director assumes responsibility for the strategy, planning, implementation and administration of various programs, plans, and activities within TD Securities. The Compensation Director ensures internal equity, external competitiveness, and legal compliance of Compensation programs and provides department and corporate context and vision for business partners. The Compensation Director works cross-organizationally with HR Business Partners and departments to ensure compensation plans and practices meet the needs of the business and Company.
Depth & Scope
- Acts as practice leader and/or top level expert within own specialized area
- Serves as key contact and the subject matter expert within area of expertise
- Develops policies and practices that are aligned with overall Human Resources strategy
- Oversees programs / services / issues that are highly complex, have wide scope / impact, and require broad business knowledge
- Works closely and effectively with HR partners in the businesses and other specialized areas
- Understands differing needs of business units / functions and adapts advice within overall strategy and policy
- Identifies and escalates issues having broad corporate implications / risks
- Leads a team of Human Resources professionals
- Ensures business partners and Human Resources are provided with high quality advice and support
- Shares expert knowledge, provide advice and counsel to business management and Human Resources teams
- Contributes to special initiatives by representing TDBFG / the business internally and externally, as a subject matter expert
- Monitors and communicates the effectiveness of strategies, programs, and practices related to own area of expertise
- Ensures programs and practices continue to meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with Human Resources priorities
- Develops and manages a team of high quality resources through recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management
- Oversees the development of the departments business plan and monitor actual results
- Leads and follows-up on action planning to address Employee survey results
- Ensures integration of other areas of expertise in the development and delivery of programs and policies, as appropriate
- In partnership with appropriate HR practitioners, develops implementation strategies, anticipating HR issues beyond own area of expertise
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience in addition to experience below
- 10+ Years of related experience
- In depth knowledge of a specialized Human Resources function
- Expert communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Proven ability to deal with all levels of management
- Strong Customer Service orientation and ability to establish strong working relationships with internal and external clients
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ Years of capital markets compensation experience
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities with complexity and ambiguity in large, matrixed, and fast-paced organizations.
- Expert stakeholder, consulting, relationship management and communications skills

- Understands and supports the Banks Customer Service Strategy
- Considers the impact of advice and decisions on the well-being of the Bank, as well as its customers, its employees and stakeholders
- Provides the highest level of Customer service when dealing with internal partners, vendors or our Customers

Shareholder Accountabilities
- Represents TD at civic, professional and bank-sponsored events; serves on non-profit boards and participates on professional organizations
- Represents the franchise both internally and externally; develop and maintain relationships with major clients, regulators, and the investment community and, with other TD leaders, support a high, positive public profile for the TD franchise
- Supports the development and implementation of operational strategies and objectives to achieve measurable excellence in the quality delivery of sales, service, and products aligned with Best Run concepts and overall enterprise strategy and objectives
- Participates in establishing and executing plans and goals for the Business to drive toward results
- Develops and maintains an operating budget, ensuring adherence to budget. May delegate budgetary assignments to direct reports, but maintains overall budgetary responsibility and oversight
- Provides financial reports and analysis including budget variances to management on a regular basis
- Communicates business strategies, programs and practices establish and operate change strategy throughout the organization
- Delivers business services, functions and capabilities that optimize the use of process, technology and our people, and take advantage of TD's scale and operating model
- Ensures TD is a best run, integrated, customer-focused, growth organization
- Understands business unit/functions own risk appetite statement, objectives for risk and control, and measures, where applicable, making sure these are aligned with TD's Risk Appetite
- Ensures that the business / function operate within TD's Risk Appetite by tracking key metrics against its policies, procedures and limits
- Successfully completes all required job specific, compliance-related training and ensure team members complete all required training
- Understands, utilizes and follows compliance/risk and control programs
- Consults with all risk functions in the development and documentation of policies, procedures and controls, for all department processes
- Ensures ongoing compliance with internal / external audit and regulatory requirements
- Provides prompt and comprehensive response to all external audit, regulator and compliance requests and findings
- Maintains appropriate records of action plans
