Position Summary:
The Investment Analyst/Associate is responsible for supporting the Investment Team and partnering closely with a Vice President or Principal to evaluate investment opportunities in below investment grade capital markets. The Investment Analyst/Associate will be responsible for all aspects of the investment and monitoring process. We are looking for an individual who is curious, eager to learn, excited to contribute and take initiative, and help add value to the team. The Investment Analyst/Associate will report to a Vice President or Principal on the Investment Team and take on an integral role in helping to manage and contribute to Octagon’s investment activity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and monitor investment activity for companies through news/press releases, earnings calls, sell-side research, SEC filings, industry conferences, and discussions with management teams
- Prepare and update investment projection tracking models
- Attend bank meetings and deal roadshows for new investment opportunities
- Deliver written recommendations to facilitate the analysis of new investment opportunities
- Maintain internal databases of investments
- Assist in processing amendment requests
- Support the development of technology-based solutions designed to improve internal recordkeeping, monitoring, and reporting capabilities
- Help answer questions pertaining to investment activity and follow up with solutions/process improvement
- Proactively take on ad hoc projects and provide support for new business initiatives, as needed
Areas of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Qualifications:
- 1+ years of relevant and in-depth research experience with below investment grade credit and the loan/CLO markets
- Bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework in Accounting and Finance preferred
- Highly motivated, proactive team player with a positive attitude
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical skills, and exemplary attention to detail
- Ability to multi‐task, be proactive, work independently, and work effectively under pressure (often under deadlines and changing priorities)
- Comfortable interacting and building relationships with all teams (including senior management) across the firm and affiliated organizations
