This position will operate in a hybrid work environment, 3 days per week in the office (Philadelphia, PA).
OVERVIEW:
The primary function of the Endowment & Foundation (E&F) Management Associate is to support a team of E&F Portfolio Managers (PMs) and other investment specialists in the daily execution of E&F relationship management responsibilities and the respective daily client service requirements. The role is an integral component of the relationship team and will provide a broad landscape from which to learn the application of endowment and foundation investment management. The Management Associate position is intended for an individual with an interest in building a career in portfolio management, client service, investment strategy and/or portfolio implementation for endowments, foundations and other institutional clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Portfolio Management and Investments. Assist Portfolio Managers in the management of client portfolios. This includes analysis of asset allocation, portfolio construction, and strategy-specific investments to ensure that portfolios are aligned with the client’s investment objectives and Glenmede’s E&F best thinking. Synthesize data into observable messages around style/sector tilts, geographic concentrations, performance drivers, risk contribution, and company-specific information. Assist in the creation of content for newsletters, monthly reports and other publications. Actively participate in internal investment meetings, including morning updates, E&F investment committee, private investments and manager/strategy updates. Research economic and market data and trends, or special topics (impact investing, cryptocurrencies, etc.) to supplement the team’s knowledge base and address client questions.
Relationship Management and Client Service. Proactively and independently handle certain client (internal and/or external) inquiries as part of PM team. Respond to client requests or proactively identify potential issues in the normal course of business undertake research or take needed action to resolve issues, and keep all relevant parties informed. Serve as direct back-up to other team/office support professionals to provide team-based coverage. Coordinate client meetings, including scheduling, dining arrangements, travel, security and other related activities. Assist in the reception of client guests, and answer office phones as needed. Communicate with clients in a professional and pleasant manner; maintain confidentiality and discretion in all client and professional interactions; and keep appropriate parties informed. Prepare client meeting materials; assist with the preparation of presentation materials for meetings in collaboration with relationship teams, performance measurement, operations, marketing, sales, investment research, or other departments to ensure deadlines are met. Assist with firm compliance and regulatory reviews as a means to reduce firm-level risk and the employment of PM best practices. Assist as needed on completing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), new business presentations and other prospect requests for information.
Firm Building. Active engagement in department-specific and firm-wide initiatives in order to expand capabilities, create solutions to unmet business needs, improve client experience, or develop more efficient processes. Ability and willingness to contribute to the advancement of team, office and business capabilities. Develop customized new business presentations for prospective clients, assimilating guidance from PMs and other team members. Other duties as required by the position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- 1-3 years’ of experience in an investment environment with interest or progress toward the CFA designation. Relevant internship experience will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel) and ability to adapt to investment and CRM-oriented IT applications.
- Superior team orientation. Self-starter with a great deal of initiative. Ability to work independently and prioritize workload to accommodate numerous last minute client-driven requests.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Full understanding of client privacy and confidentiality.
- Proven competence in the following; ability to work well under pressure; detail-oriented, particularly with financial calculations and written materials; organizational and problem solving skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
