We are seeking a data scientist with 5 or more years of experience to join our Data Innovation and Governance (DIG) team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning, along with extensive experience in applying these skills to real-world problems. They will lead advanced AI opportunities and novel algorithm development, developing proprietary models that solve complex problems. They will apply expertise beyond machine learning, enabling strategic execution and cutting-edge research. They should have a proven track record of using data visualization tools to communicate insights effectively and be comfortable navigating open-ended complex problems.
Broad Responsibilities Include:
- Lead advanced AI opportunities and advanced algorithm development
- Collaborate with diverse teams to derive insights from data and support decision-making processes
- Design and develop sophisticated data visualizations to support business reporting needs from stakeholders
- Lead process improvement initiatives using a data driven approach, including workflow optimization and operational efficiency analysis
- Transform business requirements into structured analytical approaches, ensuring alignment with stated business needs
- Lead discovery workshops and requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders to understand their challenges
- Communicate complex data insights in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Guide stakeholders in developing AI-driven strategies that align with strategic objectives and organizational goals
- Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, IT colleagues, and other stakeholders to integrate AI solutions and advanced analytics reporting capabilities on our modern Microsoft data platform
- Design, develop and implement advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms to analyze data and derive actionable insights, and contribute to AI models initiatives to solve complex business problems
- Conduct research and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in generative AI language models, machine learning, technologies in data science, and latest advancements in advanced analytics
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to integrate models and solutions into production environments
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of AI solutions and advanced analytic reporting capabilities
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues in the AI and advanced analytics space, elevating the growth and maturation of UTIMCO’s data science and AI capabilities
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning and/or AI technologies with demonstrated success in delivering end-to-end solutions
- Proficiency in data analysis, visualization, statistical modeling, machine learning, systems thinking, and optimization in programming languages such as Python, R, Java, and SQL
- Hands-on experience developing models using a broad range of methods (machine learning, GenAI, neural networks, deep learning frameworks), using scientific processes and applying custom algorithms to solve business problems
- Experience with cloud platforms and data analytics tools, including but not limited to Power BI, Spark Notebooks, PySpark, Azure Synapse, Microsoft OpenAI, Copilot, and Azure Data Factory
- Experience with data governance frameworks and security principles, including compliance with regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of generative AI solution concepts, such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and agentic workflows
- Excellence in business communication and presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement through data
- Proficient with standard office tools; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
