The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer III (willing to consider Investment Officer II) on the Real Estate team.
The Real Estate units' primary objective is to provide stable cash flow and generate an enhanced yield while providing total fund diversification and an inflation hedge. Real Estate partners with best-in-class managers with common goals to create a portfolio of high quality assets. The portfolio includes allocations to core, value add and opportunistic risk strategies across property types globally.
Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer III, provides investment expertise to the Director of Real Estate and is responsible for performing the following complex duties requiring the highest degree of independence and discretionary judgment.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, statistics, or a related field
- Commercial real estate investment experience
- Understanding the use of real estate investment trusts, co-investments, funds, and/or joint ventures within an institutional real estate investment portfolio
- Knowledge of commercial real estate market and different property types
- Understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) key performance indicators
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic with a high degree of integrity
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to research, organize, analyze, and interpret large amounts of financial data and other information
- Ability to present information clearly, both orally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences
- Ability to effectively analyze information to develop and present appropriate recommendations
- Ability to prioritize and ensure deadlines are met
- Ability to research and analyze complex issues with strong attention to detail
Duties will be adjusted at the Investment Officer II level. The Investment Officer II position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 10% of base salary.
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
