Position Overview:
The Stewardship and Sustainable Investing Group is responsible for deepening and innovating Neuberger Berman’s integration of financially material environmental, social, and governance factors across equities, fixed income, and private investment strategies. This includes partnering with our portfolio managers on further improving their investment processes, developing, and launching new sustainable and impact investing strategies, and coordinating and guiding the engagement and stewardship activities of our portfolio managers and analysts. The team also works directly with clients around the world to understand their investment objectives and develop innovative solutions.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the integration of financially material environmental, social, and governance factors for pecuniary reasons in research and investment processes across public markets products. The candidate will develop enhancements to a proprietary scoring system which includes third party specialized data, qualitative analyst inputs and data science insights. The individual will have significant exposure to the firm’s research departments as well as portfolio management teams in helping them identify, analyze, and integrate these factors into their investment process. This role has a pathway to directly contribute to investment strategies over time. This position will be based in New York City.
Primary Responsibilities:
Partner with Credit and Equity analysts on the identification of financially material factors
Maintain and enhance NB’s proprietary scoring methodology to measure and evaluate performance on financially material factors
Contribute to the deeper integration of financially material environmental, social, and governance factors into investment processes which involves working directly research analysts and portfolio managers
Conduct research and quantitative analysis, producing presentations for internal and external use to contribute to the development and execution of integration processes, data analytics, and reporting
Partner with portfolio managers and experienced industry analysts to prepare for and participate in engagements with company management teams and board members
Collaborate with colleagues across the firm on projects to support the successful implementation of the firm’s overall Stewardship and Sustainable Investing strategy and enhance the firm’s sustainable investing capabilities, including staying abreast of industry trends and regulations, and engaging with industry collaborations and working groups
Assist the Client, Marketing and RFP teams with relevant requests (periodic reporting, UN PRI reporting process, annual reporting) and support the development of thought leadership through research and writing, client engagement, and broader industry collaborations
Experience & Skills Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience and interest in sustainability or impact investing and high proficiency in sustainability data, frameworks, reporting, and industry best practices
Demonstrated experience of investment processes which may have come from experience in investment banking, investment management, sell-side research, or management consulting
Track record of balancing multiple stakeholders, building consensus, and delivering results
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Data analytics. Basic programming skills is a plus such as SQL or Python
Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational, writing, and project management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including synthesizing research and conceptual work into actionable and presentable deliverables
Ability to independently manage multiple projects in a collaborative manner with multiple stakeholders through to completion in a dynamic and changing environment
Accountable, with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity
Undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials and a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience. CFA or MBA a plus
Compensation Details
The salary range for this role is $120,000-$140,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the job posting location. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, business sector, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, market benchmarking data, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, which, along with base salary and retirement contributions, is part of our total comprehensive package. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), life insurance and other benefits to eligible employees.
